Jeffrey Klassen's childhood in Ottawa created within him a strong appreciation of bilingualism and a curiosity towards languages in general. Trained as a linguist, Jeff brings passion and expertise to the instruction of language and grammar. Outside of the classroom, Jeff also carries out research in the French-speaking community of Saskatchewan. He also greatly appreciates different varieties of vegetarian cuisine; hiking, running, and snowshoeing through natural landscapes; and sometimes relaxing with yoga.
Jeff on teaching: I find it extremely rewarding to watch students develop their language skills over time and to be involved in that process with them. Learning a language should be fun, and it should be based on practical goals like making friends or getting around a city. Language learning is also something that can’t happen alone; it has to happen with other people! The grammar of a language is learned in steps, so students shouldn’t expect to communicate perfectly from day one. I infuse my teaching with humour and heart so that the learning comes naturally!
