Book Launch for Valerie Korinek's Prairie Fairies
History Professor launches new book on queer history of Western Canada
Join Valerie Korinek for the launch of Prairie Fairies: A History of Queer Communities and People in Western Canada, 1930-1985, presented in partnership with OUTSaskatoon.
Drawing upon a wealth of oral, archival and cultural histories, Prairie Fairies recovers the previously marginalized (or, in many cases, omitted) experiences of queer rural and urban people in Western Canada between 1930-1985. Korinek pays special tribute to the queer activists and actors who forged a path through prairie culture. Focusing on Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, and Calgary, Prairie Fairies offers a lively chronicle of the region’s transformation into a predominantly urban and diverse place.
