Resist Dyeing Workshop

This weekend workshop covers 3 types of resist dyeing – block resist, shibori style, and ikat style. Using wood blocks, clamps and specific folding techniques student will create a scarf with a repeating pattern. Using thread and specific folding techniques students will create a set of 4 napkins. Using yarn as a resist students will create a dyed yarn that when worked up can create a pattern in the finished item. While creating these items students will also learn proper dye safety, dye math to achieve desired outcomes, materials handling and proper disposal techniques, fibre/fabric preparation and why it is important.

Supplies
Students will need to bring the following:
- 1 N95 standard disposable respirator
- 6 pairs of disposable nitrile gloves
- 2-3 old towels
- 6 large freezer zip top bags
- 3 aluminum 8x8 baking trays
Materials kit includes:
- 4 cotton napkins
- 1 cotton scarf
- 50 grams of cotton yarn
- dye chemicals and powders
