Kelly Kushniruk
2023 Community Arts and Artisanship Certificate Graduate
I grew up on the BC coast. In school my classes included textiles and woodworking. After graduation, I completed a floral design course which led to work as a floral designer. Along with raising my family, I had a 30-year career in business administration during which was a move to the prairies. We now live and farm in northeast Saskatchewan. The Prairies is where my art journey began.
Although I enjoy dabbling in a variety of art mediums, I prefer watercolour. I am also drawn to bright colours and the human form. I am a “people person”; maybe this is why I like to study the figure as the subject. The pieces I selected to exhibit reflect my art journey in that they focus on colour, human form, using detailed and impulsive brush strokes.
I have established relationships in the art community, and it is a very positive part of my life now. Enrolling in art classes enriches my skills and gives me the opportunity to be with other people of similar interest. To grow as an artist, I will continue with classes then, by leading art sessions for children at our local library, share what I have learned.
