Ages 9-10: Drawing, Painting and Mixed Media Exploration

Location: In-person Williams Building room 243
$275 (supplies included)

• Please bring a water bottle and snack.
• Art classes may involve materials that can stain or damage clothing. Work shirts are available, but students are encouraged to wear clothing suitable for messy activities.

In this class, children will be offered many opportunities to explore their creativity and learn and develop new skills in the visual arts in a fun and supportive environment. Through a wide variety of media and tools, students will gain knowledge and skills in a way that engages, challenges, and inspires them. Topics will include: 

• Exploring our materials 
  
  • Drawing: pencil, ink, charcoal, pastel, marker
  • Painting: acrylic, watercolour
  • Mixed media: paper, fabric, found objects, stamps, collage and montage

• Developing our composition
  • Line, shape, value, and negative space
  • Colour, form, space, and texture
  • Subject matter, arrangement and intention
  • Planning and presentation

Please note that the instructor may repeat some art processes from term to term, but with different projects.
