U of S and local businesses host Bangladesh students

Faculty and students from the College of Arts and Science have helped in partnering with local businesses on offering a summer short course and symposium

The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) College of Education, College of Arts and Science (Economics and English), and the Edwards School of Business (Finance) have partnered with several local businesses to offer a summer short course and symposium for students in business from Dhaka University.

The Bangladesh-Saskatchewan Business and Leadership Development Program brings 32 students from Bangladesh to the U of S campus from Aug. 6–18 in a new collaboration to engage with students, faculty, and local business organizations to share knowledge and to advance ideas for partnership and economic development. In collaboration with Saskatoon businesses, participants will also develop stronger interdisciplinary and international connections with students and faculty.

This international experiential learning opportunity will consist of keynote presentations, visits to local businesses, communications seminars, and project development focused on leadership, business and economic advancement.

“This summer symposium is a strong example of the collaborative work colleges on campus are doing to support international growth,” said Michelle Prytula, dean of the College of Education. “We have the opportunity to showcase our faculty, vibrant university, city, and province in impactful ways. Working in partnership with other colleges, and with the support of the Saskatchewan Educational Leadership Unit, we are able to offer an international opportunity that none of us could offer alone.”

The students’ experience begins with an introduction to Saskatchewan’s economic landscape and continues with seminars and workshops that include communication techniques, change leadership, negotiation, experiential learning and risk management all taught by current professors, college deans, and local presenters. The group will also take in several of Saskatoon’s finest offerings, including Folkfest, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, the Remai Modern art museum and more.
