Selection will be based on submitted essays.  Topics should relate to military and strategic studies, defence and national security policy, arms control and disarmament, or international and human security.

Description: To reward students in the College of Arts & Science for excellence in the preparation and writing of an essay related to their undergraduate or graduate studies in the field of Indigenous Studies or Political Studies at the University of Saskatchewan.

Eligibility: Open to students who are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course in Indigenous Studies or Political Studies as determined by the Award Committees. Selection will be based on academic excellence in an essay on the topic of indigenous issues completed for an Indigenous Studies or Political Studies course as determined by the Award Committee.

Donor: Ongoing donations from both Mrs. Herta Barron and Dr Joseph Garcea of the authors' royalties from the sale of Urban Indian Reserves: Forging New Relationships in Saskatchewan and donations from family and friends in memory of Dr. F. Laurie Barron.

Eligibility: Open to students entering their final year of study in an undergraduate Honours Degree Program in Political Studies. Students must be Canadian citizens or have acquired landed status in Canada. Selection will be based on academic achievement.

Eligibility: Offered to male students under the age of 30 who are graduating, or who have graduated, from the University of Saskatchewan with an undergraduate degree in the Social Sciences and who will be pursuing studies at the London School of Economics & Political Studies. 

Selection will be made on the following basis: 


        (1) academic achievement

        (2) humanitarian views and idealism

        (3) intention to use knowledge for the benefit of Western Canada

Donor: Bequest from George Benjamin Sanderson.

Apply: Students pursuing an undergraduate degree in the Social Sciences should apply to the Department of the discipline in which they are majoring. Students must submit an outline of their proposed course of study, a letter of recommendation and proof of registration/application to the London School of Economics. Departments will then each submit one nomination to the Sanderson Selection Committee.

Eligibility: Awarded annually to an outstanding student of Political Studies in the graduating year. Applicants must be Four-year or Honours students in Political Studies, Public Administration or International Studies who have taken at least 36 credit units of course work in Political Studies.  Students graduating at Fall Convocation will be considered the following spring. 



Donor: Established to honour Professor R. Mac G Dawson who was appointed in 1928 as Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science. This award is now made possible by the estate of the late Professor Mabel Timlin, a distinguished Professor in the former Department of Economics and Political Science.

Eligibility: Open to students entering their final year of study in pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Political Studies. Candidates must be enrolled in at least 24 credit units in the year the award is received. Candidate must have completed or be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit units of economics or applied economics courses. All candidates must submit a brief, one-page statement attesting to their leadership abilities and volunteer involvement. This may include but is not limited to extracurricular activities in the University, extracurricular activities in the community, and community volunteerism. Selection is based on academic achievement and the submitted statement.

Eligibility: Awarded annually to the student with the highest academic average in Political Studies 375.3, 376.3 and any other twelve credit units in International Relations courses taught by the Department of Political Studies. 



Donor: The College of Arts & Science and Mr. Robert Lawton Elliott, a distinguished Canadian diplomat who was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Political Studies (1991-1992).

Eligibility: Open to students graduating from the College of Arts & Science with a major in Political Studies or focusing on the science of government. Applicants must be Four-year or Honours students in Political Studies, Public Administration or International Studies who have taken at least thirty-six credit units of course work in Political Studies. Students graduating at Fall Convocation will be considered in the following spring. Selection will be based on the strongest academic record as determined by the cumulative percentage average in all Political Studies courses taken. 



Donor: The late Solomon Jack Safian, B.A.'38, LL.B.'41, a long-time Regina lawyer, in memory of the Hon. Donald Alexander McNiven who died while serving as a judge of the Court of Appeal of Saskatchewan in July, 1961.

Eligibility: Offered annually to students who have completed a degree or at least three full years of university study concentrating in History, Anthropology, Political Studies or Native Studies. The scholarships are to be used to assist the recipients in meeting the expenses of travel connected with a program of research. 



Donor: The Saskatoon Arts and Craft Society in memory of Vivian Williams Morton (B.A. '17, L.L.D. '62), co-founder of the Arts and Crafts Society and her husband Arthur Silver Morton, University of Saskatchewan's first Librarian (1914-40), Professor of History, and Head of the Department of History.
