About this event
Dr. Donald Strathearn Rawson (PhD) has been designated a National Historic Person by recommendation of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. A plaque honouring Rawson, to be installed on the University of Saskatchewan (USask) campus, will be unveiled at this event.
Rawson was a pioneering professional limnologist in Western Canada in the first half of the 20th century. He conducted scientific studies of inland aquatic ecosystems, including the first extensive studies of the large lakes of the northwest, including Great Slave Lake and Lake Athabasca.
Rawson joined the Department of Biology at the University of Saskatchewan in 1928 and was head of the department from 1948–1960. He died in 1961.
This event is hosted by Parks Canada and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan.
