Jennifer Welsh (BA’87), one of the College of Arts & Science’s alumni of influence, begins a cross-country lecture tour this month as the CBC’s 2016 Massey lecturer.

At events in five Canadian cities between Sept. 21 and Oct. 7, Welsh will examine liberal democracy’s failure to create lasting peace and equality in a lecture series titled “The Return of History.” The series will be broadcast on CBC’s Ideas later this fall.

Originally from Regina, Welsh obtained her Honours BA in political studies at the University of Saskatchewan. She is a professor and chair of international relations at the European University Institute in Florence, a fellow of Somerville College at Oxford and a former special advisor to the United Nations secretary-general.

Welsh’s Massey Lectures tour includes a stop in Saskatoon at the Broadway Theatre on Sept. 24. This event is sold out.
