Chemistry Weekly Seminar - Dr. Robert Scott

Dr. Rob Scott, Department of Chemistry, will present a seminar in Thorvaldson 110 at 1:30 p.m.

Event

Title:

Scattering the Seeds for Catalysis (or Better Chemistry through Gold)

Abstract:

In the second of a two part series, I will follow up Prof. Foley’s talk on how to recover pure Au from low grade ores, and discuss how one can then take that metal and redisperse it for catalytic applications. I will highlight recent efforts in our group to make Au, Ag, and Pd clusters (below 1.5 nm in size) and “single-atom” bimetallic catalysts for use as highly active and selective catalysis. In addition, I will update our collaborative work with University of Alberta researchers on investigations of humidity-tolerant methane oxidation catalysts using in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
