Elixir Ensemble presents Piano Quartets by Women Composers of Paris

Saskatoon ensemble, which is now in its 11th concert season, presents chamber music for piano and strings

Event

Date: Saturday, April 20, 2019
Time: 2:30 pm
Location: Emmanuel Church, 609 Dufferin Ave.

In this Easter concert, Saskatoon's Elixir Ensemble is presenting two interesting piano quartets from the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Louise Héritte-Viardot and Mel(anie) Bonis. These are works that aspire to rival the dimensions of other works in this genre, as opposed to the "salon" style pieces usually composed by women composers of this period. However, they distinguish themselves by their moments of romantic French sentimental lyricism, light, playful textures and straightforward, uncomplicated musical ideas. Enjoy these rarely heard gems!

Tickets are available online at elixirensemble.com, at McNally Robinson Booksellers or at the door.

About Elixir Ensemble:

The Elixir Ensemble is in its 11th concert season and is dedicated to presenting great chamber music for piano and strings. Accomplished Elixir musicians Oxana Ossiptchouk (violin), James Legge (viola), Scott McKnight (cello) and Professor Kathleen Solose, pianist and artistic director, are the heart of the ensemble.

Over the years, they have brought moving performances of great music to Saskatoon audiences, often featuring guest artists. They enjoy playing timeless piano quartets of Mozart, Brahms and Fauré as well as English works by Bliss, Bridge and Walton, passionate Russian masterpieces by Rachmaninov, Tanyeev and Shostakovich and countless others, including contemporary Canadian works. Elixir has regularly been awarded grants from the Saskatchewan Arts Board for their concert series, which offers Saskatoon audiences a unique chamber music experience — an elixir for the mind and body!
