Dr. Maurice Jr. Labelle recently offered commentary to Al-Jazeera regarding why the United States launched a military intervention in the Lebanese civil war in 1983 and, somewhat surprisingly, opted for a full withdrawal less than six months later. Dr. Labelle explains how the U.S. intervention, which was publicly justified as a so-called peace mission, exacerbated tensions in Lebanon and the Middle East more broadly.
