Prairie Fairies book launch with author Valerie Korinek

McNally Robinson Booksellers, OUTSaskatoon and the University of Toronto Press are pleased to present Valerie J. Korinek launching Prairie Fairies: A History of Queer Communities and People in Western Canada, 1930-1985.

Drawing upon a wealth of oral, archival and cultural histories, Prairie Fairies recovers the previously marginalized (or, in many cases, omitted) experiences of queer rural and urban people in Western Canada between 1930-1985. Korinek pays special tribute to the queer activists and actors who forged a path through prairie culture. Focusing on Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton and Calgary, Prairie Fairies offers a lively chronicle of the region’s transformation into a predominantly urban and diverse place.

Valerie J. Korinek is Vice-Dean Faculty Relations in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan and a professor in the Department of History. She is the author and editor of numerous books, including Roughing It in the Suburbs: Reading Chatelaine Magazine in the Fifties and Sixties and Edible Histories, Cultural Politics: Toward a Canadian Food History.
