Dr. Valerie Korinek delivers keynote address in London
The Prairies Coming Out Strong: Western Canadian Queer Communities, 1969-1985
On November 30, 2017, Dr. Valerie Korinek gave a keynote address entitled “The Prairies Coming Out Strong: Western Canadian Queer Communities, 1969-1985” in London at the Queer Localities Conference. The talk focuses on how more than a decade of organized social and political activism about queer liberation in the Canadian West tied places like Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Calgary and Edmonton to the broader international gay polity. This research is part of Dr. Korinek’s forthcoming monograph Prairie Fairies: A history of Queer Communities and People in Western Canada 1930-1985, which will be coming out with the University of Toronto Press in the spring of 2018
