The final performance of maskihkiyiwan nehiyawin: Re-igniting the Fire can now be viewed online.
In the spring of 2017, the first cohort of students in the wîcêhtowin Aboriginal Theatre Program debuted an original stage production at the University of Saskatchewan titled maskihkiyiwan nehiyawin: Re-igniting the Fire (“Cree is medicine: re-igniting the Fire”).
The performance was the capstone to two years of shared study and training and represented the students’ final project before earning their Certificates of Proficiency in Aboriginal Theatre.
Re-igniting the Fire explores the challenges of balancing Indigenous cultural identities in the 21st century. It was directed by Carol Greyeyes.
