About this event

At present, the world seems bad to many: a climate catastrophe looms, neo-fascist and alt-right political movements grow, and online social media fiefdoms dominate political discussion. Though it preceded these developments by many years, Marxist theory has valuable insights into the seemingly intractable problems of modern western life. I will outline a general Marxist perspective (avoiding theoretical minutiae) and speak to some features of Marx’s thought that can help us understand how we got into these particular messes and what we might do to get out of them.

Philosophy in the Community is a free lecture and discussion series sponsored by the USask Department of Philosophy. Learn more.
