Oxford Publishes Third Ed. of Sociology of Education by Terry Wotherspoon

Oxford University Press of Canada has announced the publication of The Sociology of Education in Canada: Critical Perspectives, Third Edition by Terry Wotherspoon, professor and Head of the Department of Sociology.

The Press calls the book “a well-rounded introduction to the sociological understanding of education, analyzing key debates and issues with references to critical research and theories of education. In this concise critical introduction, Dr. Terry Wotherspoon covers all aspects of the sociology of education in Canada, including issues such as the sociology of teaching, gender and race, feminism, and globalization.”

Terry Wotherspoon’s areas of specialization include the sociology of education, work and the professions, social policy, minority relations, and Aboriginal issues. He has also been designated Adjunct Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. He has degrees in Sociology and Education, and a PhD in Sociology. In addition to several years of teaching experience at elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels, he has engaged in research and published widely on issues related to education, social policy, indigenous peoples, and social inequality in Canada. He is a recipient of the Canadian Education Association’s Whitworth Award for Educational Research. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Governors of the Prairie Metropolis Centre, and is Managing Editor of the Canadian Review of Sociology
