Title

Synthetically Modified Biopolymers for Metal-Ion Sequestration in Liquid-Solid systems

Abstract

The present study provides new insights into synthesizing and characterizing chemically modified biopolymers for metal ion sequestration in liquid-solid systems. Various modified biopolymers in the form of PECs/COFs, chitosan cross-linked with glutaraldehyde, and grafted chitosan with functional groups were made. The various synthetic strategies result in chitosan with variable structure and composition, including variable metal ion adsorption properties. The preparation of modified polymers for metal ion uptake in biopolymer adsorbents has greatly contributed to the field by providing efficient, selective, and sustainable methods for metal ion removal and recovery. This research concludes that synthetically modified biopolymers have great potential as adsorbents for metal-ion sequestration in liquid-solid systems due to their low cost and high metal-ion adsorption capacity.
