Title: Developing novel COPD therapy using single-cell genomics technology

Abstract: COPD is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and is Canada's #1 cause of hospitalization. Researchers have studied COPD for decades, but no therapy can reverse the disease's progress. This motivated us to discover novel therapies based on phenotypes of immune cells, a new area not well explored in the past. This requires analyzing single-cell genomic data. In this talk, I will briefly introduce the problem we are trying to solve, show some preliminary results (mostly in the cell-type annotation), and describe our future work, such as deconvolution and causal inference. This project is in collaboration with UBC Medical school, NRC, and USask Math & Stat. Hope we can build some new collaborations on this.
