About this event

While the idea of a caring economy is beginning to attract the attention of policy makers around the world, the demands to create a caring democracy still face serious challenges. Speaker Joan Tronto will discuss her paper that revisits the idea of caring democracy, surveys the recent increase in attention to care, and delves into the challenges to a caring democracy. How can these challenges be overcome to create a genuinely caring democracy?

Tronto is professor emerita of political science at the City University of New York and the University of Minnesota. She is the author of many works on care ethics, including over 50 articles and several books.

Sponsored by the Timlin Trust, this series of annual lectures was was established in honour of Mabel Frances Timlin (1891-1976) and is alternately hosted by the Departments of Economics and Political Studies.
