Dr. Tom Ellis, Professor in the Department of Chemistry, University of Saskatchewan, will present a seminar at 1:30 pm (location TBA).

Event

Topic:

Who’s Ready for a Flipped Classroom?

Challenges create opportunities. The status quo of university teaching and learning has been disrupted, and as we plan for a return to ‘normal’, it’s a good time to reflect on what we have learned. This seminar will focus on my personal experiences from teaching a new first-year chemistry course for engineers. Like some other instructors in our department, I recently experimented with the flipped classroom format of course delivery [1]. In addition, the course incorporated a climate change theme into the curriculum, an approach that Ian Burgess developed for the prerequisite course. Based on data, student feedback, and my own observations, I will highlight the successes and challenges, and provide some recommendations for going forward.

A Top Hat course has been set up for the seminar. Please go to www.tophat.comlogin to register for Course Code 981578. It’s free to register by using your NSID (Log in by choosing University of Saskatchewan as your school, NOT the Canvas version).
