Event

ICCC Film Series: Taika Waititi's film BOY

What: Screening and discussion
When: Wednesday, Jan 11, 7 to 9 PM

BOY is a film about the relationship between dads and sons. Boy imagines his father Alamein as a deep sea diver, war hero and a close relation of Michael Jackson (he can even dance like him). In reality he’s “in the can for robbery.” When Alamein returns home after seven years away, Boy is forced to confront the man he thought he remembered, find his own potential, and learn to get along without the hero he had been hoping for. BOY was directed by Maori filmmaker Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok).

A short discussion about Indigenous fatherhood led by Rob Innes, Department of Indigenous Studies, will follow.

Presented as part of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Culture and Creativity/Broadway Theatre partnership for 2017.

Admission: 7$ adult and 5$ student.

(Indigenous youth/student groups who are interested in attending, please contact Tasha directly to make other arrangements).
