derdie is the collaboration between Derek Sandbeck and Andie Palynchuk, two interdisciplinary artists situated on Treaty 6 Territory. Derek and Andie have worked together on numerous projects, both personally and professionally, curating and producing a variety of programming.

derdie’s artistic practice revolves around the exploration of play through visual, interactive, and performance art. The duo regard play and art as essential for human well-being. Both enable creative expression while developing imaginations and expanding spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional states. derdie’s goal is to construct an arena where play and art coalesce, creating space to assess societal norms, break down barriers, and connect communities by cultivating joy.

Andie Nicole Palynchuk resides on Treaty 6 territory in Saskatoon as an interdisciplinary artist. Andie’s delightful demeanour pours into her creative endeavours engaging a diverse audience through painting, sculpture, installation, performance and interactive art. Play and colour are imperative languages which Andie utilizes for interconnection and communication. She believes that creativity is not a rare gift that only some special few are born with, but rather an integral part of every human’s experience. She believes each of us can express our creative impulses to enrich our lives and tell our own unique stories and those which deserve to be shared.

Andie is a co-founding member of Bridges Art Movement, leads art workshops, develops children’s programming and has created SAI art studio at Saskatchewan Alternative Initiatives. Andie strives to make art accessible for all while sharing her own unique practice.

Derek Sandbeck is an emerging artist based on Treaty 6 Territory/Saskatoon, SK. He received a BFA from the University of Saskatchewan in 2011 and has since been pursuing his independent practice. Working in a wide range of mediums, his work is largely focused on ideas of environment and space. He is one of the founding members of Bridges Art Movement, a collective of emerging artists who develop both socially-engaged and gallery-based projects. Since 2015, Derek has served as the Gallery Coordinator at AKA artist-run, a non-profit artist-run centre in Saskatoon.
