Candidate's bio:
Dr. Ingrid Pickering received her BA (natural sciences) from the University of Cambridge and a PhD (physical chemistry) from Imperial College, London. Ingrid joined the Department of Geological Sciences as an associate professor with tenure in 2003 and was promoted to professor in 2010. In 2018, Ingrid served for 12 months as Acting Vice-Dean Research, Scholarly, and Artistic Work in the College of Arts and Science. She holds associate memberships at the University of Saskatchewan with the Department of Chemistry, the Toxicology Centre, the Global Institute for Water Security, and the Division of Biomedical Engineering. Ingrid’s cross-disciplinary research connects to the Canadian Light Source synchrotron, using and developing synchrotron technologies to investigate metals in organisms from the environment to human health. Ingrid was awarded a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Molecular Environmental Science in 2003 (renewed in 2008) followed by a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Molecular Environmental Science in 2013 (renewed in 2020). In addition, Ingrid served as a member of the board of directors of the Canada Foundation for Innovation from 2013 and, following an open search, in 2018 was appointed by the Governor in Council as chairperson of the Board of the Canada Foundation for Innovation. Ingrid was awarded the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation Achievement Award in 2018, and the same year was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
