Leah Rosenberg's practice spans a range of media including painting, sculpture, installation, performance and food. Her work explores how colour, form, flavor and arrangement have the potential to delight and bring people together. Using a process of accrual and layering, her colourful, textural works reflect how our experiences and memories accumulate.

Rosenberg spent her formative years in Saskatoon, moving to Vancouver to attend Emily Carr Institute where she graduated with her BFA in 2003. In 2006, she moved to San Francisco CA to pursue her MFA at the California College of Art, where she wrote her thesis on the artistic possibilities of cake. She later moved on to hold a position as the lead pastry chef for the rooftop coffee bar at SFMOMA, where she applied her love of art, artists and cake-making to create desserts celebrating the museum’s rotating collection. As an artist, Rosenberg has participated in programs and exhibitions throughout Canada and internationally, including the US, Germany and Poland. Recent exhibitions include, Happiness Is... (Montalvo Arts Center, Saratoga), Bay Area Now 7 (Yerba Buena Center for the Arts) and Appro-propagation, an exhibition of this year's Kala Art Institute's printmaking fellows in Berkeley, CA.

For the month of September, Leah Rosenberg has returned to Saskatoon, revisiting many of the city's landmarks, recording her days by collecting colours from around town and the U of S campus. This selection of colours – a decision both personal and informed by everyday experience – will take shape in Everyday, A Colour, a site-specific installation in the Kenderdine Art Gallery, where she has been painting the gallery a different location-based colour everyday over the course of the month.

This Thursday at noon in the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery, Rosenberg will discuss her practice and how coming home to collect colours has been a way of reconnecting to abstraction and landscape.

The KAG/CAG opening reception for Mono / Chromatic: Tammi Campbell + Leah Rosenberg will be held on Friday, September 30th, from 7:30-10:30pm.
