This public lecture hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics examines how the same principles that contribute to the widespread public fascination with viral mathematics memes hold pedagogical power.

The mathematics involved in this talk is recreational in nature and accessible to a wide range of interests and abilities.

Nat Banting is a mathematics teacher and faculty lecturer in the College of Education’s Department of Curriculum Studies. He is the recipient of the 2019 Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award recognizing innovation and excellence in Canadian mathematics education, as well as the first Canadian recipient of the Rosenthal Prize from the National Museum of Mathematics in New York.
