Title: New Directions in Biopolymer Materials: Applications from Chemical Fractionation to Air-to-Air-Energy-Exchangers

Biopolymers represent an emerging class of alternative materials as sustainable adsorbents for a range of diverse applications. In particular, starch-based materials have gained increasing interest due to their relative abundance and structural diversity (cyclic-, linear-, and branched-forms). This presentation will provide an overview of recent research that explores the physicochemical properties of native and modified biopolymers relevant to adsorption-based phenomena, with an emphasis on starch-based materials. This presentation will provide an overview of recent studies from my research program that highlight the utility of selected biopolymers and their modified forms as adsorbents for applications that range from fractionation of chemical mixtures to advanced desiccant coatings in air-to-air-energy exchangers.
