Alumna named to Order of Canada
The Honourable Karen M. Weiler (BA’68) will be invested as a member of the Order of Canada for her lifelong service to family law
The Honourable Karen M. Weiler (BA’68), an alumna of the College of Arts and Science, will be invested as a member of the Order of Canada for her lifelong service to family law.
Weiler, a retired lawyer and federal judge, is among 83 new appointments to the Order announced today by the Governor General of Canada.
Born in Spiritwood, Sask., Weiler received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan before studying law at Osgoode Hall Law School. She practiced law in Ontario for two decades and held appointments as a judge for the District Court of Ontario, the Ontario High Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Court Martial Appeal Court. Weiler served on the Justice Minister's Advisory Committee for Judicial Appointments and was one of seven Canadian judges who participated in the first Canadian-American Legal Exchange.
