Abstract:

Central banks in several countries, including Canada, are currently considering whether they should issue digital currencies (central bank digital currencies or CBDC). This presentation analyzes the implications of the introduction of CBDC for private financial intermediaries, the role of physical currency and the implementation of monetary policy.
