Professor Emeritus David Edney is being recognized by a local organization as an individual who embodies the spirit of philanthropy.

Edney has been named an honoured supporter by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Saskatoon Chapter. He will be a special guest at the 17th Annual National Philanthropy Day luncheon on Nov. 15.

The retired professor of French created the David Edney Trust Fund for Theatre, Language and Culture, whose impact within the College of Arts & Science includes enhancing the Aboriginal Theatre Program, creating student travel scholarships and providing graduate student funding. Beyond the college, Edney teaches yoga to inmates at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre and supplies funding to bring yoga to Indigenous communities.

“Gifts of money can ease suffering and support creative people who are working to solve our problems. In this way, we can all have a role in making the world better,” said Edney in a video produced for the National Philanthropy Day Saskatoon Facebook page.
