Tim Lilburn wins European Medal of Poetry and Art
Poet and alumnus (BA’73) becomes first Canadian to win international prize
Poet Tim Lilburn (BA’73) was presented with the 2017 European Medal of Poetry and Art in October, making him the first Canadian to win this prestigious international award.
Also known as the Homer Medal, the prize is given annually to outstanding creators in the worlds of literature and the visual arts.
Lilburn is the acclaimed author of 12 books of poetry and essays including Tourist to Ecstasy, Living in the World as if it Were Home and Kill-site. A graduate of the College of Arts & Science’s former Regina campus, he has been the recipient of honours that include the Governor General’s Award for Literature, the Saskatchewan Book of the Year Award and the Canadian Authors Association Award. Lilburn was previously a lecturer at St. Peter’s College and St. Thomas More College and is now a professor at the University of Victoria.
