Canada 150 Exhibition: Fly High Canada
Artist unveils paintings of 150 Canada geese to celebrate Canada 150
To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, artist Shawn Zheng unveils Fly High Canada, ten new paintings of 150 Canada geese depicted throughout the seasons. Painted with grace and simplicity, the lyrical compositions represent flocks of geese returning from winter homes, alighting, nesting, grazing and migrating. A professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Fujian Teacher’s University in China, Zheng immigrated to Canada in 1989, where he continues to practice his art and teach. “Canada Geese are so strong,” he says. “They really impressed me when I first arrived. They stand for freedom, harmony, gaiety and peace: all values that Canadians cherish.”
