About this event

Guest speaker: Jasmine Redford, University of Saskatchewan Department of English PhD candidate

Captain Canuck superhero comics have been sporadically published since 1975; since then, Canuck has protected Canada and Earth from invasion and threats. Jasmine Redford will discuss what she has observed in the canon’s approach to violence and why Canuck’s justification for depicting violence is framed as tragically necessary.

Works in Progress talks are venues through which Department of English doctoral candidates share the ground-breaking research they've been pursuing through their PhD dissertations.
