About the English Department

Our vision is to be a place where many peoples come together.

The Department of English at the University of Saskatchewan is recognized for its excellence in teaching and research. Located in the Arts Building, the department supports undergraduate and graduate education and research in literatures from a variety of historical time periods and geographical areas.

Undergraduate Programs

Our undergraduate program includes courses in literatures from the Medieval period to modern day, featuring authors from Canada, Britain, the United States, and around the world. We offer innovative courses in Indigenous and digital literatures and cultural and film studies, as well as experiential learning though fourth-year internship courses.

Graduate Program

Our graduate program supports a wide range of research projects related to English literature, but also cultivates innovative interdisciplinary research with concentrations in:

• Indigenous Literatures
• Digital Studies
• Modernist Studies
• Canadian Literature
• Cultural Studies

We also offer an MFA in Writing program dedicated to mentorship, student support, and an inclusive community.

"Our Department’s vision is to be a place where many peoples come together to engage in mutually respectful relations and dialogues. We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is Treaty Six territory and traditional Metis homeland, and we acknowledge the diverse Indigenous peoples whose footsteps have marked this territory for centuries."
