Photoresponsive Langmuir–Schaefer films of amphiphilic dithienylethenes
Abstract:
We are developing photoresponsive multi-layered Langmuir–Schaefer (LS) films prepared from amphiphilic photochromic dithienylethenes. These functional materials will have potential application in optical devices and responsive surfaces. We have synthesized new amphiphilic dithienylethenes. In addition, we have assessed their spreading behaviour and stability as Langmuir films. Further, we have examined the photochromism and nanostructure of multi-layered LS films using absorption spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, respectively. Our most recent developments will be presented.
