McMullen Reappointed Acting Vice Dean, Social Sciences
Dr. Linda McMullen has been reappointed as Acting Vice Dean, Division of Social Science from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014. McMullen will continue filling this role as the former Vice Dean of Social Sciences, Dr. Harley Dickinson, has seen his secondment as Strategic Advisor - International in the Office of the Vice-President Research extended for an additional year.
Dr. McMullen joined the University of Saskatchewan in 1980 as lecturer in the Department of Psychology. She was promoted to full professor in 1996. Dr. McMullen graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a M.A. in clinical psychology. She received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Saskatchewan in 1981, and became a Registered Psychologist with the Saskatchewan Psychological Association in 1984. During her tenure, Dr. McMullen has served on dozens of University and College committees. She was Head of the Department of Psychology from 2001-2006. Dr. McMullen was elected by faculty as a member of the University of Saskatchewan Board of Governors in 2004. In 2009 she was again elected by faculty as a member of the Board of Governors, and also served as the Board’s Chair of the Land and Facilities Committee and Audit Committee, until 2010.
Her areas of research are women and depression, metaphor and narrative, and discourse analysis, and she specializes in performing qualitative research. Her current research is focused on how language shapes, and is shaped by, social and cultural contexts. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association and has received the Jillings Award from the Saskatchewan Psychological Association for outstanding and longstanding service to the profession. Her research has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
Since January 2011, Dr. McMullen has been the University’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Leader. She has served as the SSHRC presence on campus and in the community to promote achievements and conduct promotional activities to support Tri-Council goals in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. McMullen has been Acting Vice-Dean Social Sciences since August 1, 2012.
