Supervised by Dr. Jim CliffordMy research aims to examine the relationship between climate and the process of commercial agriculture on the Malabar Coast of Indian (specifically 1780-1878) and its impact on the natural conditions of the area. Climate emerged as a crucial factor in agricultural and economic activity in Malabar, and climatic fluctuations introduced numerous challenges to British commercial operations and revenue management. This research tries to examine the development of colonial resource management practices within the British Imperial System, focusing on how coastal climate posed challenges to Britain's Indian Empire and strategies employed by individual people and colonial authority to assess the climatological characteristics of Malabar.
