Women in Technology: Trends, Opportunities, and Strategies for Success

In 1995, Anita Borg proposed a challenge to have 50-50 representation in computer science and IT by 2020. Yet, the percentage of women receiving undergraduate degrees in computer science and computer engineering dropped from 37% in 1985 (US) to 11% in 2008 (Canada and US) and has remained between 11-14% since. Dr. Kelly Lyons is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Information at the U of T. She is a member of the Steering Committee for the Ontario Celebration of Women in Computing (ONCWIC) and is very interested in promoting Women in Technology initiatives.
