Valerie Korinek — “The Day Gay Marriage Came to Winnipeg, Feb. 14, 1974”

Contrary to popular assumptions, gay marriages were not merely a phenomenon of the past decade. When Rich North and Chris Vogel tied the knot in Winnipeg in 1974 they became a media sensation. Two men?! Was it April Fool's come early as CBC interviewer Barbara Frum wondered? This lecture explores what it means to get married, then and now, and offers a thought-provoking analysis of the "quest" for gay and lesbian marriage.
