“But it Didn't Happen That Way”: The Challenges and Pleasures of
Writing Historical Fiction

Fledgling Historical Fiction writer Jeanette Lynes discusses how she endeavored to make Northern Ontario in the 1940s come to life in fiction, and imaging history as story and creative project. Jeanette Lynes, who coordinates the MFA in Writing at the University of Saskatchewan, is the author of six books of poetry, including Archive of the Undressed (2012) which was shortlisted for two Saskatchewan Book Awards, as well as a historical novel The Factory Voice (2009).
