About this event

Content warning: This talk will make reference to symptoms of severe depression and suicide.

In 2018, Glorie Tebbutt, a long-time sessional instructor for the Department of English, established two undergraduate awards for students living with mental illness – a Resilience Scholarship and a Resilience Bursary - each worth $1000. In her talk, she will articulate her “why,” why these awards, why this cohort of students, and why describe such students in terms of resilience.

Glorie knows what it means to be both debilitated by mood instability and highly functional while living with bipolar disorder. She also knows what it means to live with the long shadow of stigma. She will talk candidly about living with a mental illness and why she made the decision years ago to be honest with her students about her mental health diagnosis.

Literature Matters: Literature in the Community is a free public lecture series sponsored by the University of Saskatchewan Department of English.
