Lang appointed to college executive leadership position for five-year term

Dr. Jennifer Lang (PhD) has been appointed as vice-dean academic (VDA) in the College of Arts and Science for a five-year term.
Lang has served as acting and interim vice-dean academic since January 2024.
During her service in the role, Lang has contributed to significant college projects, including the major declaration project, leading Generative AI initiatives, establishing the college student experience committee, enhancing the academic program review process, and establishing the college’s first micro-credential.
She will assume the VDA role within the college effective July 1. 2025.
“I’m excited to continue advancing academic initiatives in the role of vice-dean academic,” Lang said. “Over the past year and a half, I’ve learned a lot about the college’s needs and have had the opportunity to connect with colleagues within our college, across colleges, and at the university level.”
“There is a lot of potential to develop and create academic partnerships and opportunities for the College of Arts and Science and I am looking forward to working with the Dean’s Executive Committee and all departments to achieve the college’s goals.”
Lang earned her PhD, Master of Music (Music Education), and her bachelor's degrees in music education and education from the University of Western Ontario. Lang has been a faculty member and director of choral activities in the College of Arts and Science since 2015. She has shown a commitment to academic innovation at USask through the development of several programming initiatives, including graduate programs in the area of music education.
She received a USSU Teaching Award in 2020 and was recognized for her community engaged research with the university’s Publicly Engaged Scholarship Team Award in 2024, and the college’s Research, Scholarly and Artistic Work Publicly Engaged Scholar Award in 2023. Most recently, Lang was honoured with a University of Saskatchewan (USask) Top New Researcher Award for 2025.
Lang also co-leads the university’s Signature Areas of Research: Health and Wellness. She has developed new courses in the area of music and wellbeing, along with an interdisciplinary Certificate in Music and Wellbeing.
The vice-dean academic is an essential member of the College of Arts and Science leadership team and a key liaison with USask’s Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic.
