Join us for these final sessions as we reflect on where we are heading next. Join a panel of alumni currently active in the field; meet our newest faculty; listen to an announcement about our 2020-21 Greystone Theatre season, and watch as we honour our first recipient of the Henry Woolf Award.

Please join us for our final performance of Unity (1918), followed by a concluding talk-back session with the director, cast, and crew of the play.
The evening will end with a brief celebration closing our 75th-anniversary event – and launching our next 75 years!

Event: Opening Event with special guest Kim Coates (BA’81, Hon. DLitt’17)

Join us for our special virtual “kick-off event” officially opening our month of celebrations marking 75 years of “us” at USask. University of Saskatchewan honorary degree recipient and Department of Drama graduate Kim Coates (BA’81, Hon. DLitt’17) will be in conversation with Jeff Rogstad (BA’82, Arts’85).

Event: “In the beginning....” Drama in Saskatoon and the University of Saskatchewan 1907-1945”  
Cost: Free
What was drama like at USask and in Saskatoon before Greystone Theatre? Why are we the first drama department in the British Commonwealth – and why does that matter? This lecture/demonstration is a treat for the historically minded and those curious about “the way we were.”

Event: Act I 1945-1970: “Hits!, Misses! Triumphs! Disasters!: Our first 25 years”
Panel Discussion and reunion
Cost: Free
Celebrate our first turbulent quarter-century. Remembering Emrys Jones and the Hangar building, the provincial players, Town and Gown, Walter Mills and the Arena Theatre, and the productions and those who produced designed, directed, and acted in them. Join our panel of Greystone alumni and associates as they remember those heady years. Then bring your own memories to our virtual reunion for the years 1945 to 1970. Visit a breakout room for your own years and/or drop in on others.

Event: “Greystone Theatre: Remembered in Photos”  
Cost: Free
Greystone Theatre has always existed in the memories of those who graced the stage—or watched those who did. Fortunately, we have also been gifted with photographers who preserved those memories on film. Join our panel of experienced photographers as they guide us through a “sentimental journey” of photographs over the years and the joys, rewards, and challenges of photographing Greystone Theatre—especially in the old Hangar Building—as well as digitizing those photographs for later generations.

The Edinburgh Fringe, The Saskatoon Fringe. Summer Stock. Henry Woolf, Harold Pinter, and Marat/Sade. The productions, the directors, the designers, the actors. Connecting with Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan. Join our panel of Greystone alumni and associates as they remember those dynamic years. Remembering the John Mitchell Building, summer camps and summer theatre festivals, Travel Abroad – Czech Republic, London, New York, noon shows, the 60th-anniversary show, the birth of the wîcêhtowin Theatre Program (WTP), the productions, the directors, the designers, and the actors. Opening of Unity (1918) 
Event: Preshow discussion

In preparation for our first performance of the play, please join us for our pre-show discussion with the director of Unity (1918) and history and theatre scholars as we explore the interconnection, similarities, and differences between the human, cultural and artistic response to the Spanish Influenza in 1918 and to COVID-19 in 2020-21.

Join us for the opening night of Kevin Kerr’s Unity (1918), our 75th-anniversary production directed by alumnus Skye Brandon. We dedicate this production to drama department members, past, present, and those to come, and to those in Saskatchewan who faced a global pandemic in 1918 with courage, resilience, and resourcefulness – and those who have repeated that extraordinary feat a century later in 2020-21. We salute you all.
