Women's, Gender, and Sexualities Studies (MA)

The goal of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities Studies graduate program is to create new knowledges, concepts and theories as they relate to diverse gender and sexual identities and experiences, through the study and application of critical feminist theory, masculinity studies, queer and sexualities studies, and cultural and transnational studies.

The program integrates feminist interdisciplinary scholarship and new approaches to academic research and community engagement. Students are provided with research opportunities that cross academic fields, and situate their work in critically informed local, national, and transnational frameworks.

Careers

This interdisciplinary program responds directly to present and future needs in our society. With a Master's degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, you gain the skills to engage with and contribute to critical conversations surrounding social justice, equality, and diversity.

Graduates become skilled employees and researchers trained in the theories, methodologies and applications of feminist and related theories, tools which are increasingly in demand across local, regional, national and international contexts. Equipped with understandings of the intersections between gender, race, sexuality, and class, your graduate degree could prepare you for careers in:

  • academia, conducting research and teaching at the university level.
  • non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, or governmental agencies, where you might contribute to policy development, program management, and community outreach initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity and dismantling systemic inequalities.
  • corporate settings, fostering diversity and inclusion, or working in human resources to create more equitable workplace environments.

The versatility of a WGST Master's offers a chance to effect meaningful change across various sectors by fostering a more inclusive and just society.
