About

Cree Longjohn

tânisi! Cree Autumn Sunrise Longjohn nitisihkâson. pakitahâw sâkahikan ohci niya.

My name is Cree and I am from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, SK. I am the USask Science Outreach Coordinator with the College of Arts and Science and I am a nêhiyaw-iskwêw with a Bachelor of Science in Renewable Resource Management. I coordinate and direct Science Outreach programming in community schools within Saskatoon and Northern Saskatchewan. I am reclaiming nehiyawêwin and I aim to incorporate language throughout all aspects of my life whether it’s talking to family, teaching friends and colleagues, and incorporating language in my work. It is important to me and the future generations to preserve and revitalize Indigenous languages in all spaces including USask.

In this series of videos, you will learn about Plains Cree knowledge, culture, and language through connections to the museum’s collection, our local natural world, Earth's history, and the evolution of life.

You can also print these activity sheets that go with the videos, featuring colourable artwork by Prairie Constant:
