School Visits and Programs

Field Trip Program: May and June

We are currently fully booked but you can add yourself to the waitlist by clicking on Book a Field Trip below. We do get cancellations and some spots may open up.

Free field trips are offered over seven weeks in May and June in partnership with the USask Science Departments, Science Outreach, quanTA, the Museum of Antiquities, and the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society. Join us for hands-on activities and tours at the Museum of Natural Sciences, in teaching laboratories, and at other campus cultural facilities. Field trip topics include paleontology, geology, biology, astronomy, math, chemistry, physics, archeology, geography, psychology, and antiquities.

If you teach at a school that needs extra support such as a Community School, you can request free bussing when you register thanks to funding we receive from Community Initiatives Fund. The free bus rides will be offered on a first-come first-serve basis. We also reserve spots for schools needing this extra support so if we are booked up, please contact us because we might have something for you!

To book a field trip, please fill out the online form which will be available on this page starting at 8am on March 21. If you would like assistance, contact us at 306-966-5729 or museum.naturalsciences@usask.ca.

  • Please book only one field trip session so we can give this opportunity to as many kids as possible.
  • If you would like to request a second trip, you may add yourself to the waiting list at the bottom of this page and let us know which programs you are interested in and what dates work for you. We will contact you if we are able to offer you a second field trip.
  • A minimum of 15 students per trip is preferred. Please contact us at museum.naturalsciences@usask.ca or 306-966-5729 if you wish to book a trip with fewer students.
  • Field trips require a minimum of 2 adults.

Visiting the Museum

The Museum of Natural Sciences is free and drop-in and you do not need to book in advance. Visits are self-guided unless you are coming through our May and June field trip program. To help make the most of your visit, we have some resources including scavenger hunts that you can print for your students. The museum and adjacent washrooms are wheelchair accessible, but some of the museum's displays and exhibits may be harder to view.

The museum is located near working classrooms, labs, offices, and study spaces. We also have many artifacts that are fragile and valuable and loud noises or tapping on the the glass enclosures will scare the animals. Please do not run or use loud voices and be respectful of others in the museum and in nearby spaces. Children must be supervised by adults.

If you are coming by school bus, the best drop-off and pick-up location is 112 Science Place at the Collaborative Sciences Research Building. Due to the construction underway near the museum, you will then need to follow the detour signs the take you to the museum around the outside of the buildings. If you need it, there is bus parking at Lot 20 near Merlis Belsher Place. Another option for getting here is the free Saskatoon Transit Class Trip Program.
