Field Trip FAQ

The maximum is either 32 or 34 students. Please check the MNS Field Trips page for your specific session

Field trips require a minimum of 2 adults (this does not include adults who are assigned to only one child). If this is a barrier for you, please contact at 306-966-5729 or museum.naturalsciences@usask.ca.

We kindly ask that teachers lead and participate in classroom management, and our university student staff and session hosts welcome your tips on supporting and engaging your class.

Click here for general information on getting here. If you are new to visiting the University of Saskatchewan campus, please don't hesiate to contact us at 306-966-5729 or museum.naturalsciences@usask.ca. We would be glad to answer questions and help you find your way!

Please note that the University Bridge is closed right now, making it harder to get to campus. The Bowl is also currently fenced off, so if you are coming from that direction, you may need a few extra minutes to get around that area.

  • The drop-off and pick-up location for school buses is 112 Science Place at the Collaborative Sciences Research Building
  • After you enter the Collaborative Sciences Research Building, please follow the signs through the buildings to the museum.
  • If you need it, there is bus parking at  Lot 20 near Merlis Belsher Place.

Rex

You will meet your session leader at the T. rex in the Museum of Natural Sciences at the session start time (9:30am or 12:15pm) to take you to your field trip location, and then bring your group back to the T. rex or to your bus at the end of the session (11:30am or 2:15pm).

Watch for an email the week before your field trip to connect you to your session leaders!

Call or text our museum manager Erica or your session leader at the number(s) sent to you via email the week before your field trip session. We will come and find you and/or adjust your meeting time.

Some include a tour and others don't, so please check your session details. You are always welcome to spend as much time as you want at the Museum of Natural Sciences, before or after your session. We have a scavenger hunt tour and some other resources here that can help you make the most of your visit.

If you recieve free bussing for schools needing extra support, you are welcome to book your bus so that you can spend longer on campus.

If you teach at a school that needs extra support, you can request free bussing when you fill in the form. Free bussing is made possible thanks to the Community Initiatives Fund and is allocated to qualifying schools based on consultation with the school boards. Priority will be given to the following schools:

  • Bishop Klein, Bishop Roborecki, St. Frances, St. Maria Goretti, St. John, St. Mary’s, St. Mark, St. Michael, and St. Edward
  • Caroline Robins, Caswell, Wâhkôhtowin, Fairhaven, Sutherland, Howard Coad, King George, Lester B. Pearson, Mayfair, North Park Wilson, Westmount, W.P. Bate, Vincent Massey

If you didn't request this at the time of registration, you can still do so by contacting us at 306-955-5729 or museum.naturalsciences@usask.ca.

The Museum of Natural Sciences and most of the field trip labs, classrooms, and other spaces are wheelchair accessible. Some of the museum's displays and exhibits may be harder to view. There is an elevator right in the museum to get to the second floor, where there are more displays you may wish to explore. Please note that the Observatory is not wheelchair accessible.

If you have visitors in your group with special needs, please email museum.naturalsciences@usask.ca or call 306-966-5729 and we will be happy to answer questions and do our best to make accommodations.

Spend the day at the university! There are several other places you might like to visit or book a tour at such as the Museum of Antiquities, Art Galleries, Diefenbaker Canada Centre, Little Stone SchoolhouseCanadian Light Source, campus buildings, and the outdoor spaces.
