About

The English Course Council (ECC) represents all MA, MFA, and PhD students in the Department of English. The ECC is comprised of executive and non-executive members, with the President, Vice-President/Finance, and Communications Officer making up the executive, and various committee members, from the Faculty and Graduate Committee representatives to the Graduate Student Association and Public Service Association of Canada representatives, making up the non-executive. Together, these members ensure that graduate student views and concerns are voiced at the department level and that our educational and professional rights are advocated for at the university level.

Every graduate student in the Department is eligible to sit on the ECC, with members elected at the first general meeting of the academic year.

Members of the ECC manage and edit The Fieldstone Review, an online literary journal publishing short fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction/reviews. Under the supervision of Professor Sheri Benning, MFA students run The River Volta Review of Books, an online journal of book reviews, interviews with writers, and essays analyzing elements of the craft. MFA students also organize the River Volta Reading Series, a monthly event featuring author-led readings.
