Professor Emeritus John Sheard wins prestigious award

Last week at the Canadian Botanical Association annual meeting in Waterloo, Ontario, Prof. Emeritus John Sheard won the Lawson medal of the society. This is the highest award of the society and Prof. Sheard was recognized in category A of the Lawson medal (Recognition of a single outstanding contribution to botanical knowledge, monograph, book or series of papers) for the publication of his monograph, “The lichen genus Rinodina (Ach.) Gray (Lecanoromycetidae, Physciaceae) in North America, north of Mexico, published by the NRC Research Press, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada". This monograph, which represents life time (over 50 years) of his work, on a very difficult and diverse genus, is based on microscopic studies of thousands of samples collected from North America and around the world. Prof. Sheard's research has received raving reviews from colleagues around the world; he is truly deserving of this recognition and award.

Congratulations to Professor Sheard!
