College partners on ABIC 2014 "Tomorrow's Leaders" forum

The College of Arts and Science is proud to collaborate with the Global Institute for Food Security and other academic partners to present the first Tomorrow’s Leaders forum at ABIC 2014. This inaugural session, moderated by Julie Borlaug, will engage students in defining the important role of science in feeding the world and achieving the goal of global food security.

Ag-West Bio hosts ABIC 2014, “Global Leadership in a Changing World”. ABIC 2014 is being held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – the heart of agricultural biotechnology in Canada, the birthplace of canola, home to the Canadian Light Source synchrotron and the Global Institute for Food Security – from October 5-8, 2014.

ABIC is the premier global meeting that promotes innovation in bioscience to ensure sustainable food, feed, fibre and fuel security as the climate changes.

Delegates attending the ABIC 2014 conference will hear from 42 global leaders who will identify global issues, strategies and challenges; address international regulatory issues, new opportunities for expired patents, be updated by plant and animal innovations, discuss the issues and opportunities for water and land use, and identify the challenges of meeting the needs of Africa. Industry leaders will address new developments including RNAi, apomixis, photosynthesis, imaging and LLP; as well as the impact on soil and plant health. International strategies will be covered with invited speakers from China, India, Brazil and Australia, to name a few.

Delegates will have the opportunity to network with organizations that may have representation at ABIC 2014 such as CGIAR, CIMYTT, FAO, OECD, World Bank, and the Gates Foundation. Includes a 34-booth tradeshow, public forum, international student forum and a poster competition.
